    see didactic.me for review!
  59. 15.
The Secret River by Kate Grenville - 3 years ago A-
A great read, I especially like the voice she gives her characters from the 19th century, description of the aboriginals and how it might have been with the first settlers. Bound to read with heavy heart after the dedication. One detail I never got was the aboriginal carving of his boat - bit of a loose end and mystery to me...

only dipped into - in fact hit finished by accident! unable to grade therefore!

  68. 6.
Cloth Girl by Marilyn Heward Mills - 3 years ago B+
Had a strange feeling I was reading a much older book. Shall be interested to see how old the author is and perhaps ask her about this!
  69. 5.
The Little Friend by Donna Tartt - 3 years ago A-
Excellent deep South feeling - also great for insightful young person perspective (though she is Scarey!)
  70. 4.
The Darkness of Wallis Simpson by Rose Tremain - 4 years ago B+
  71. 3.

  72. 2.
A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving - 5 years ago B+
Not Irvings best, but with some remarkable scenes - tad gorey and upsetting to me in hindsight. Kinda nice in an Irving way with the way the ending is played and with heroic death - typical of the author.
  73. 1.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Ian Gregor - 35 years ago C

I Have Given Up

  1. Mantrapped: A Novel by Fay Weldon - 3 years ago D-
the mixture of novel and autobiography just did not work for me - ALTHOUGH it has led me on to reading Elizabeth Smart - so not all bad!
  2. THE FIVE FINGERS by HUDSON - 3 years ago
I think life's too short for this one - bought it just to give to my father anyway, for Christmas now!
